Faces of the Weird West

40 ready-to-ride Deadlands heroes: 15 lone riders and 7 posses of two to six.

Using These Characters

Every hero on this page is an original, built for Deadlands: The Weird West with the Savage Worlds Adventure Edition steps: the Deadlands Character Creation page on top of the core rules' Character Creation, Traits & Skills and Edges & Hindrances. None of them is a character from the Deadlands books. Hand one to a player for a one-shot, use them as the Marshal's posse of allies or rivals, or read them as worked examples when you build your own.

To use one, pick a hero whose concept grabs you, rename them freely, then adjust to taste. Swap skills or Edges as you like, but keep the budgets: 5 attribute steps, 12 skill points, and up to 4 Hindrance points spent on extra steps, skills or Edges.

Take them to the table. All 40 heroes are in one file for the fillable Character Sheets. Download it, open the sheets, press Import and choose the file; each hero then appears under Load with fate chips, Grit, powers, gear and (for posses) the rest of the posse in the notes. The sheets are ready to play: every weapon has its full stats, priced gear its weight, and the money left from the $250 starting funds is worked out on the Deadlands price list (a kit that costs more is flagged as a GM choice in the notes). Each card's At the table line shows fate chips, Grit, Power Points, weight carried and money.

How to Read a Card

Weird West Rules on These Cards

Lone Riders

15 heroes who work alone: for a one-player game, a stranger who rides into the posse's town, or a hero to drop into any campaign.

Posses of Two

Two riders who keep getting dragged into the same trouble.

Posses of Three

Three heroes: enough to watch each other's backs, few enough to share a campfire.

Posses of Four

A full table of four, with a little of everything the Weird West demands.

Posses of Five

Five riders, enough to cover the guns, the books and the prayers at once.

Posses of Six

A big posse for a big table, or for a Marshal who means to lose a few.
